Bajrang Poonia captured the gold medal in the ongoing Rome ranking series at Matteo Pelicon, Rome.
Bajrang Poonia defeated Mongolia’s Tulga Tumur Ochir 2-2 in the final of the 65 kg weight category freestyle event.
Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia defended his title by scoring two points in the last 30 seconds to win the gold medal in the Matteo Pelicone Ranking Wrestling Series, which helped him regain the number one ranking in his weight class.

Bajrang Punia has achieved the number one rank as soon as he wins the final of the Rome rankings. He was earlier in the second place in the world ranking list. Poonia has achieved this ranking for the second time. He was also the number one wrestler in the world earlier in the year 2018. He has again captured the top.
United World Wrestling has released the world ranking list of freestyle wrestling events. Bajrang Poonia is on top in it. Bajrang Poonia is playing in a competitive match after one year due to Corona. Poonia defeated Joseph Christopher of the US 6-3 in the semi-finals of the Rome Ranking Series to make it to the gold medal match. He defeated Selim Kozan of Turkey 7–0 in the quarter-finals.
India won seven medals in this first ranking series of the year. In the women’s section, Vinesh Phogat won the gold and Sarita More won the silver medal. Greco Roman wrestlers Neeraj (63 kg), Kuldeep Malik (72 kg) and Naveen (130 kg) won bronze medals.
