The Goa court will now give its verdict on May 19 in the rape case against Tehelka magazine’s former editor Tarun Tejpal. Earlier on March 27, the court had ordered the case to be heard on May 12. Tarun Tejpal was arrested on 30 November 2013 in the case of sexual harassment of his junior journalist. However, at the time, he dismissed the allegations levelled against him by accusing the BJP government of Goa of acting in a political vendetta.
What is the case against Tejpal?
The then editor of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal, was accused of sexual harassment by a woman working with him. He was accused of sexually assaulting a lift in a five-star hotel in Goa during a magazine program.
Tejpal went to the Supreme Court
The Goa court had on 29 September 2017 framed charges against Tejpal under various sections including rape and sexual harassment. He appealed against this in the Supreme Court and demanded the dismissal of the charges against him. However, he was not relieved by the Supreme Court. Tejpal has been granted bail in the case and is currently on bail.
