On Friday, 26 March, four months of the farmers’ movement are going to be completed. On this occasion, farmers’ organizations have called for a Bharat Bandh. Farmers organizations have announced to keep everything closed from 6 am to 6 pm. United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has appealed to the people to support the Bharat Bandh. SKM said in a statement, “This government is insensitive to the demand for food security for poor people and to increase the purchase of farmers’ crops.”
Farmers’ organizations on Sunday criticized the demand for a parliamentary committee for the immediate implementation of the Essential Commodities Amendment Act (ECAA). The ECAA is one of the three laws against which farmers are protesting on the borders of Delhi.
The parliamentary committee has asked the government to implement the ECAA. Members of opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress and AAP are also included in this committee. These parties are demanding cancellation of three new agricultural laws recently implemented by the Center.
SKM said, “We appeal to the farmers, workers and common citizens to intensify their struggle for the repeal of the three laws and the legal right to the minimum support price”. It is clear from the unprecedented support that the ‘Bharat Bandh’ proposed on 26 March will be successful. He said that all services except emergency services will be suspended from 6 am to 6 pm on that day.
