There has been an uproar over cancellation of SIT investigation report of Kotkapura firing in Punjab. After the High Court order, now the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Harbans Singh Lekhi of Faridkot closed the file of Kotkapura firing case on Tuesday. This action has been taken on the basis of the decision of the Punjab Haryana High Court to cancel the investigation report of the SIT in the Kotkapura firing case a few days ago.

Based on the investigation in the Kotkapura firing case, the SIT had filed a charge sheet against 7 people and the trial against them was scheduled to be held in the court of Additional Sessions Judge on Tuesday. During the hearing, defense counsel Gursahib Singh Brar informed the district court of the High Court’s decision. He said that on 9 April, the investigation report of this case has been canceled and the 89-page decision in this regard has been made public on 23 April. On this basis, the defense asked the district court to close the case file, which was accepted by the court.
With the closure of the case file by the district court, the former DGP, suspended IG, former SSP MLA Charanjit Singh Sharma, then ADCP Ludhiana Paramjit Singh Pannu, the then DSP Baljit Singh and Thana City SHO Gurdeep, along with the charge sheet filed on behalf of the SIT. Singh has been freed for the time being. It may be known that a total of four challans were produced by the SIT in the Kotkapura firing case. According to the law, the challans are also considered canceled due to cancellation of the investigation report by the High Court.
Bahubal firing hearing adjourned till May 18
The Bahubal firing case was also heard in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge. During this time, the defense lawyers informed that the investigation of the SIT in this case has been challenged in the High Court, on which a decision is expected to come on 13 May. Subsequently, the district court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 18. It is to be known that in this case also a total of 7 accused chargesheets have been made, including former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.
