The Punjab government will purchase 30 lakh covishield doses from the Serum Institute for vaccination of people in the age group of 18 to 45.
Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has asked to use the Chief Minister Covid Relief Fund to purchase the vaccine. Along with this, the Health Department has written a letter to the Union Health Ministry demanding that 10 lakh doses be given immediately.
Capt Amarinder Singh said that apart from the Chief Minister Covid Relief Fund, CSR Fund should also be used for free immunization for the poor in government hospitals. Reviewing the vaccination strategy, the Chief Minister has asked the expert group headed by Dr. Gagandeep Kang to present a strategy to prioritize immunization among the 18-45 years old group in its first report by 29 April. He also clarified that the state government will not compromise on vaccination for the age group above 45 years. He will continue as before. The Chief Minister said that the Central Government should consider providing vaccine to Punjab at a reduced price of Rs 162 per dose.
Punjab has received doses so far
Punjab has so far received 29,36,770 doses of Covishield and 3.34 lakh doses of Covaxin. As of 22 April, 25.48 lakh doses of Covishield and 2.64 lakh doses of Covaxin have been used. The state has a stock of 2.81 lakh covishields and 27,400 covaccine doses. PTI
